English - Writing Lab

-Writing Lab is required for all NHA students and is incorporated into the English curriculum. In this class, students are encouraged to develop their brainstorming and writing skills by utilizing the five step writing process: prewriting (brainstorming and outlining), drafting, revising, editing, and publishing.
Students will learn the different types of writing including:
- cause/effect essay
- compare/contrast essay
- narrative essay
- persuasive essay
- definition essays
- process analysis essays
In addition to different types of essays, the students will learn all the traits of effective writing to prepare them for college level assignments.
Some traits of well organized and polished papers are:
- stimulating ideas
- logical organization
- engaging voice
- original word choice
- effective sentence style
- correct grammar/punctuation
Individual or small group learning provides the teacher with the ability to structure lessons to each student. The Writing Lab coach will create individual programs ranging from the introduction to the paragraph for lower level learners, to five-page, formal term papers using MLA format for the most advanced.
