New Hope Academy

World Languages

The study of World Language is an essential component of the New Hope Academy curriculum.  We offer all levels of Spanish and German which are implemented by using non-traditional methodology.

(Above are pictures from our Cinco de Mayo Celebration)

We focus on five main areas of language development:

Communication

  • Engage in conversations
  • Understand spoken and written language
  • Present concepts, ideas, and information

Cultures

  • Understand the practices and perspectives practiced by the culture studied

Connections

  • Reinforce their knowledge of other subject areas through the study of foreign language

Comparison

  • Draw comparisons between the culture being studied and their own

Communities

  • Students use the language outside of the classroom to effectively communicate
  • Understand the importance of being a life long learner of language

Our non-traditional approach to curriculum is enriched with cultural experiences both in and outside of the classroom.  These activities allow students to apply the information learned in class to real life situations.  Some include:

  • Philadelphia Art Museum Exhibits
  • Mexican cuisine appreciation day
  • Cinco de Mayo celebration
  • Spanish Food Festival
  • German Festival

Our goal is for students to effectively learn to communicate in the target language so that they can make use of their skills outside of the classroom setting.
