Science - High School Curriculum

The New Hope Academy High School Curriculum is unit driven and interdisciplinary, integrating mathematics through problem-solving and measuring; social sciences such as anthropology and history; and english through report and research writing.

Our unique approach to testing the high school science curriculum focuses on:

  • Teamwork and Collaboration - students work in groups during lab activities and learn to share ideas.
  • Enhanced Communication Skills - through  the writing of lab reports, research papers and presentations.
  • Critical-Thinking Skills - are developed using the scientific method to make predictions and to draw conclusions.
Our Highschool curriculum consists of:
  • Physical Science - physical science is required for all students in 9th grade. We use Hands-on Investigation which allows students to see Newtonian concepts in action.  Physical and digital models enable students to visualize abstractions.
  • Biology - Biology I is a required course for all students in 10th grade, Biology II is offered for those who wish to continue their studies in this subject area. Laboratory experiments and field trips are essential parts of our Biology curriculum.
  • Chemistry - Chemistry I is a required course for all students in 11th grade, Chemistry II is optional but strongly recommended for students going on to a four year college.  Hands-on investigation using state of the art laboratory instrumentation augment this curriculum and enable students to see concepts in action.

For students that wish to pursue science at the college level AP Chemistry is offered as well.
