Science - Middle School Curriculum

 Middle School Curriculum

Science in middle school concentrates on introducing students to various science topics in order to prepare them for in depth study in their high school years. Experiencing science in a hands on manner is an integral part of the curriculum. Throughout the middle school years space, earth, and life science are just a few of the topics that the student will be actively engaged in.

Our unique approach to mastering topics in the middle school science curriculum focuses on:

  • Hands-on – encourages student to become actively engaged in the topic and nurture their curiosity of the world around them.
  • Model Building - to help students visualize abstract concepts.
  • Project-Based – allows students to use their unique talents to demonstrate mastery of concept and demonstrate decision making abilities.
  • Unit Driven – enables students to see a beginning and ending to topics and allows for the incorporation of other disciplines of study.
  • Interdisciplinary - integrating mathematics through problem-solving and measuring; social sciences such as anthropology and history; and english through report and research writing.
  • Independent and Cooperative group learning - students work in groups during lab activities and learn to share ideas and are provided with decision making opportunities. They are also given time to independently investigate their own ideas.
  • Enhances Communication Skills - through the writing of lab reports, research papers and oral presentations.
  • Critical-Thinking Skills - are developed using the scientific method to make predictions and to draw conclusions ultimately resulting in the designing and carrying out of their own unique investigations.
  • Field Trips – applies content and skills learned in class to students life experience and connects them to the community around them.
  • Applied Science-students learn about science based careers and how science affects their lives and the communities in which they live.
