Physics

Prism

New Hope Academy's Science Department offers three levels of physics courses to accommodate the needs of a variety of students.

  • Conceptual Physics - This course is designed for students who do not have a strong mathematics background or interest yet would like to learn some of the underlying fundamental concepts of physics.
  • Honors Physics - A course offered for those students with good mathematics skills and a desire to learn the theory behind the physics concepts.  This course encompasses a wide range of topics such as motion, mechanics, electromagnetic theory, optics, thermodynamics, and electric circuits.
  • AP Physics - This course is for highly motivated students who want to achieve college credit.  The curriculum is designed to prepare the student for the Advanced Placement Physics test offered by the College Board each spring.  The schedule is intense, involving a sizable commitment to independent study.  The student must have excellent math skills and a strong desire to do well.  Some of the topics covered include vibration, doppler, hydrodynamics, atomic and nuclear physics in addtion to material from the Honors Physics course.
