Most students in math classes beyond Algebra and Geometry become familiar with the TI-84 calculator, but most do not make full use of its potential. While students learn how to solve math problems step-by-step, they can also learn how to program their calculators to follow similar steps. Students can directly see the connection between mathematics and computer programming. They begin to see what steps they (as humans) need to do and what steps computers can do. One of the other benefits is that the students create programs that they can use to solve similar problems in the future.
