Eclipse guides students (and anyone else) through the process of creating new projects, objects and methods. The central code-writing part of the user interface gives alerts for errors, tool tips, and other reminders. With Eclipse, students can easily test programs to see how they will work. When ready, students can easily create a JAR file (stand-alone program) or applet (for the web).
Students learning the Java programming language become familiar with Sun Microsystems (the company that created Java) and the extensive resources on Sun's web site. Students learn how to find relevant Java code online, connect with a community of developers, and use the resources available to become proficient and creative programmers.
