Technology - Electronics

New Hope Academy's Technology Department also offers a series of courses in Electronics.  Electronics I, II, III, and IV are full-term courses (0.5 credits each) with dual emphasis on theory and hands-on experience.  The Electronics Elective (0.25 credits) involves less theory and more emphasis on the hands-on electronics.  Course contents are summarized below.

 


 

  • Electronics I - An introductory course for the beginner.  Curriculum includes:
    • Conductors and Insulators
    • Resistors and Capacitors
    • Ohm's Law
    • Series Circuits
    • Radio Shack Learning Lab
    • Soldering and Use of Multimeter
    • Basic Electronic Kits
  • Electronics II - An intermediate level course.  Prerequisite = Electronics I or commensurate experience:
    • Parallel Circuits
    • Series Parallel Circuits
    • Meter Theory
    • AC Theory
    • Electromagnetic Induction
    • Motors
    • Hands-on Labs with more sophisticated kits
  • Electronics III - An intermediate/advanced level course.  Prerequisite = Electronics I & II or commensurate experience:
    • Reactance & Impedance
    • LCR Circuits
    • Filters
    • Diodes
    • Transistors
    • Relays and Switches
    • Hands-on Labs
  • Electronics IV - An advanced level course.  Prerequisite = Electronics III:
    • Integrated Circuits
    • Computers
    • Fiber Optics
    • Power Supplies and the Oscilloscope
    • Advanced Labs with Digital Circuits
  • Electronics Elective - Includes discussion of the basics of circuit components and test equipment.  This course introduces the student to experience with soldering, troubleshooting, scopes and meters, reading schematics, motors and gears, and microprocessors.  Beginner kits to more advanced kits including robotics will be constructed.
