New Hope Academy, a small private school with campuses in Yardley and Doylestown, will perform Cole Porter's musical, "Anything Goes" 7 p.m. May 9 and 10.
The play boasts 35 cast and crew members participating, a number that makes up more than a quarter of the academy student body. The students have been working after school for months rehearsing lines and songs, building the set and creating their own costumes.
New Hope Academy founder Kathy Rosso-Gana feels that performing plays and musicals have many benefits that justify the enormous effort and cost of producing complex productions, including lifelong memories, team building and leadership skills, self-confidence and attention to detail which are all developing during rehearsals.
"Besides all the ways students grow, perhaps more importantly," said Rosso-Gana, "they have a lot of fun working as a team and associating lots of joy and laughter to this experience."
The musical will be performed in Grace Point Church, 592 Washington Crossing Road, Newtown.
