Philosophy
of School
New
Hope Academy promotes education through motivation by working
with the head and the heart before working with the brain. By
encouraging mind set changes UNTIL the possibilities for each
student's growth and learning are unlimited, NHA inspires students
of all ages to reach their full potential by igniting passion,
teaching strategies, and structuring practice. For over 25 years,
we have helped to establish a foundation for excellence in our
students to encourage a lifetime of achievement. New Hope Academy
is dedicated to the pursuit of academic excellence and personal
success in a setting designed to allow the student to feel the
relaxed atmosphere of a home, the stimulating environment of
a place of learning and the necessary respect of a place of
business. Therefore, our facility is a unique blend of a home,
school, and office. This nurturing environment feeds the soul
and educates the mind because within the safety of our walls,
students make the choice to learn and grow.
New
Hope Academy provides an environment for students to learn in
a rare one-to-one setting without the external distractions
of peer pressure, teacher confrontation, or behavior problems.
However, time for appropriate social interaction is created
by providing interactive work on projects and activities revolving
around content courses.

Program
Goals
New
Hope Academy provides a one-on-one education. Each child moves
ahead at his/her own pace with the full attention of one teacher
per subject. Students are quickly challenged to stretch beyond
their comfort zones and achieve beyond their expectations. New
Hope Academy is committed to implementing a state-of-the-art
curriculum combined with cooperative learning, hands-on application,
and other developmentally appropriate practices.
New
Hope Academy accepts all students and gives each child an opportunity
for success. Students will be given high expectations and must
maintain respect for themselves, the people they work with,
and the building in which they work in order to stay at NHA.
Specializing in motivating and educating at-risk teens, schoolaphobic
children, mentally gifted students, and all children who feel
they do not "fit" in their schools -- (the proverbial
"square peg in a round hole").
The New Hope Academy staff will work professionally and pleasantly
with each parent, student, and/or school administrator to coordinate
each child's placement. Working together we accomplish the goal
of finding a way to help each child to grow and learn and do
WHATEVER IT TAKES to succeed.
NHA
provides the least restrictive environment for students who
are not succeeding and thriving in the traditional educational
environment of the high school and for whatever reasons, could
not survive in the traditional alternative school. NHA has courses
for students from mentally gifted to very low achieving. We
meet students where they are and give them a second chance as
we work UNTIL we are able to help them meet our expectations
and the state standards.

Standards
Based Curriculum
New
Hope Academy has a challenging Standards based curriculum for
grades 7 - 12. Because we offer a private one-on-one or very
small group, 2 - 3 on one education; students can't "hide"
from the teacher. Every student is academically stretched, out
of his or her comfort zone and into a challenge zone.
In
addition, New Hope Academy incorporates the latest in brain-based
research, by working with the head and heart, before working
with the brain. N.H.A. focuses on the mind, body and spirit
connection. This is essential to all learning. Our students
participate in interrogational learning, yoga, art, music and
psychology, as part of their world-class educational experience
at New Hope Academy.

In
a one on one setting, students have "nowhere to hide".
Instructors are focused on individual strength and needs without
the distraction of large groups.
New
Hope Academy students benefit from individualized instruction,
not only academically, but also personally. This stems from
individualized instruction. Instructors become mentors and confidents
as well as academic coaches.

Character
Building Philosophy
New
Hope Academy's character building philosophy is based on the
Target Hope model, founded by their parent company, METC www.metc.com.
The Target Hope model, centers on getting people of all ages
"High on Pursuing Excellence". At New Hope Academy,
students are met on their individual (personal) academic levels.
Then they are inspired to motivate themselves further. By working
with the head and heart first, before working with the brain,
New Hope Academy utilizes the cornerstones of self-skills and
people skills. In addition, is the centerpiece of building conflict
resolution and leadership skills to insure that students have
a firm foundation upon which to build their academic skills.
This helps students understand themselves, each other, and the
world better. At this point, the possibilities for growth are
endless.
